Causes of Liver Disease

Common causes of liver disease include Viral Hepatitis (A, B, C and E), Fatty Liver and Drug Induced Liver Injury, while less common ones include Autoimmune Hepatitis and Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC).  It is important to diagnose the cause of the liver disease and the extent of the liver damage, in order to deliver the appropriate treatment.

While some liver diseases like Hepatitis C can be cured. Others, like Hepatitis B and Fatty Liver can be controlled and will require long-term surveillance.  Liver monitoring is done with blood tests and scans to detect the extent of liver scarring (fibrosis) and amount of fat in the liver
